Schimmel Still in the hands of the Schimmel family, Schimmel Pianos continues to be one of the top manufacturers in Germany. Started on May 2, 1885 by Wilhelm Schimmel, this company continues the tradition of making fine pianos through the third and fourth generations. Their attention to detail, and strict quality control, give a level of consistency rarely found in large manufacturers. The piano to the right, called the "Otmar Alt" was named after it's designer, famous German sculptor: Otmar Alt. The piano was released at the 1999 Frankfurt Musik Messe. Currently Schimmel is doing a few new things. For starters, they opened another manufacturing facility in Poland, and began producing their new "Vogel" line of pianos. These pianos represent a wonderful value in high performance pianos. Currently the Vogel comes only in one grand (5'8"), and offers the quality of a Schimmel at a significantly lower price. Hopefully we sill have a page dedicated to this piano soon. Schimmel has also completely re-designed their lineup of pianos, now offering three distinct new models. With a new Wide-Tail design, Schimmel has re-invented their sound and performance. All three new models offer the same action and key length, which will allow all three models to have the same level of performance and touch, in three different sized cases.
